About VoltaMetrics

VoltaMetrics was founded in March 2024, bringing more than 15 years of clean energy consulting experience to utilities, government agencies, and communities.

As a certified women-owned small business, we're driven by a simple belief: data-powered decisions create better clean energy outcomes.

Our work spans program design, implementation, analysis, reporting, and quality assurance. Whether we're helping an energy agency grow a program or supporting our client’s clean energy goals, we focus on delivering practical solutions grounded in science, data, and real-world results.

Our mission is to help organizations make informed clean energy decisions today while contributing to a cleaner, safer, and more sustainable future for generations to come.

Expanding Solar Access for Minnesota Families

VoltaMetrics continues to serve as the Solar Technical Assistance Liaison (STAL) for Minnesota's Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP).

Our goal is simple but impactful: help bring solar energy to more income-qualified households throughout Minnesota.

As part of this initiative, VoltaMetrics supports every stage of project implementation, serves as a resource for community-based weatherization Service Providers statewide, and helps ensure projects are delivered effectively and consistently. We're proud to support a program that expands access to clean energy while helping families reduce energy costs.

Meet the Team

Carina Paton

Carina is the President and Founder of VoltaMetrics. She holds an MPhil in Environmental Technology, a BSc (hons) in Physics, and is a Certified Geothermal Inspector. She brings valuable insight and knowledge from her 15 years of experience in clean energy consulting both nationally and globally.

She is passionate about clean energy and finding solutions to real-world problems that are based in science and data. Carina loves to solve problems and wants to do her part to leave future generations with a world that is clean, safe, and has enough resources.

In her free time, Carina enjoys spending time outdoors and exploring nature with her family.

Bel Birkholtz

Bel joined our team in April 2026 as our Administrative Assistant. She supports our team with various operational needs as well as doing desk research for projects we're working on.

With no prior experience in the clean energy industry, Bel has enjoyed learning about clean and sustainable energy and how to do her part in making this world a better place for her and generations to come.

In her personal time, she enjoys traveling and spending time outside. As a born-and-raised Minnesotan, she loves being on the water, whether that's swimming, kayaking, or ice skating.

Katherine James

Katherine joined our team as our spring semester intern. She is studying Electrical and Computer Engineering at St. Cloud State University with hopes to one day have a career in electronics, semiconductors, or embedded systems.

Her internship with VoltaMetrics took place from February 2026 to May 2026. During her time here she participated in the Xcel Energy & CenterPoint Energy Multi-Family Building Efficiency Program as well as the Weatherization Assistance Program. Katherine's role included presenting to potential participants for these programs, as well as GIS mapping & analysis and data analysis & interpretation.

In her free time, she enjoys cooking, reading, video games, and playing with dogs.

Isaac Olson

Isaac joined our team in May 2026 as the part-time Association Manager for Minnesota Geothermal Heat Pump Association (MNGHPA). He brings valuable expertise from his career outside of VoltaMetrics, where he serves full time at the University of Minnesota.

He supports our team through various tasks including association operations, member engagement, and industry outreach. He has previous experience working with universities, employers, nonprofit organizations, and international partners to build meaningful connections and create opportunities for learning and professional growth.
